  1. I saw my first differently-colored hair at 26. I pulled it out. My husband teased me that I was being vain. I told him, “No, I’m just seeing if I’m going to go grey, white, or silver.” It was silver. I was glad. At double that age, I am waiting for the small-but-growing patch of those silvers to break through the top layer of dark hair. I think when they finally do, it’s going to look like my hair changed color very rapidly. Nope, they’ve been spreading slowly, but hiding beneath the top layer, plotting.

  2. I never know what to do when people (actually 100% women I think) have this kind of conversation with me. I mean I don’t walk up to people and say “Wow, this last year has really aged you. Look at all that gray hair you have now.”, but I started becoming the target of these conversations about 8 years ago.
I know it isn’t mean spirited, So I’ve decided to take it as a compliment. They either 1. feel comfortable enough with me to not have fake conversations and empty compliments built on white lies or 2. they actually consider it a positive feature, or at least not negative, and therefore have no reason to restrain mentioning it to me. Supposedly salt and pepper hair looks good on a man. Both reasons are positive things that I’d prefer. So.. I just awkwardly take it in stride.
