As people left the shrine, they were intently looking at a piece of paper. I wanted one of those pieces of paper. I didn’t know what it was, but since everyone was leaving with one, I figured we needed to get one too.
There were a number of things going on in the shrine, and it took us a bit to figure out which line to go into to get the piece of paper. We dutifully stood off to the side and watched how things were done. Once we figured out the pattern, we stepped into line but didn’t know how much to give. The little girl in front of us had the coin buried in her hand so it was difficult to tell. In the end, we settled on a 100 yen, and apparently, we guessed right!
Btw, today is the day we are returning back to Canada. I already miss the toilets.
