I wondered if Joe had heard of this nursery song. I mean, I was surprised Ekko knew what it was. So yes, I fully went into this joke knowing they would probably not understand it. It was a good time for me.

Poor Joe.

Panel 1 (Ekko, Errol, Joe, and Keren are in the car) -
Errol: Patricia says, "Sorry, Kermit, do you mind if I ask my manager about this collateral?"
Kermit replies,
"Go ahead, Patti."
Patricia Goes to her manager, shows the bauble, and explains the situation.
"I don't even know what this thing is, yet Kermit wants to use it as collateral," says patti.

The manager looks at the bauble and says, "It's a knick knack, Patti Wack, give the frog a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone."
Panel 2 -
*silence*
Panel 3 -
Errol: You get it? Have you heard of that nursery song? "This old man, he played one..."
Joe: No.
Panel 4 -
Errol: Hunh. I guess that would have made it confusing.
Ekko: I think it's more than just that.
Joe: You know, when I think joke, I think, "So this guy walks into a bar..."
Keren: So does everyone else.

  1. This is my third time trying to submit this (usually it says submit and it shows up). Maybe it doesn’t like the links. So – either you’ll have multiples or only this one (with no actual links)

Comic. “Pearls Before Swine.” Stephen Pastis. He frequently (occasionally?) has these long, drawn out Sunday comics with a punning punchline in the final panel coupled with Rat attacking the creator with a mallet or similar weapon of destruction.

If you go to GoComics (no account needed) and search for Pearls Before Swine – these dates are examples:

    2013/10/06
    2016/10/09
    2019/12/08

    1. And success!! You and Pastis might be Spirit Brothers (although, he is forced to get to his punchline in a single Sunday strip…..)

      1. Fun fact, these types of jokes are actually known as Feghoots! Apologies to Errol’s family as I have just provided him a way to learn endless more of these jokes…

        1. Oooooooh! I didn’t know that! That IS good to know. (I always thought they were called shaggy dogs, but Feghoot is definitely the pun joke thing I do)!
